History

  1. 1975 Cabo Verde becomes independent from Portugal on 5 July.
  2. 1977 The Cape Verde escudo is introduced and unlinked from the Portuguese escudo on 1 March.
  3. 1998 The escudo is pegged to the Portuguese escudo at 0.55 Cape Verdean escudo per Portuguese escudo under an exchange cooperation accord with Portugal.
  4. 1999 The escudo’s anchor switches to the euro on 1 January, at about 110.27 escudos per euro.
